NEPA holds festival and race

NEPA’s Day Downtown Fundraising Festival and 5K will take place in Downtown Wilkes Barre in mid-July.

The festivities will begin with a NEPA Run the River 5K Run/Walk. This will be the inaugural water-themed event for NEPA.

The run/walk will be around Kirby Park. Kingston participants wearing white tee shirts will get pelted with water from volunteers using water toys and water guns situated around the course. Those dressed in blue shirts will get by-passed.

Awards will go to the fastest in each age group and to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place overall female and male finishers.

Registration will be $25 until July 1st, $30 until July 19th, and $35 on race day.

Registration will open at 8:30 am with the 5k runners beginning at 10:00 am and walkers at 10:15 am. The awards ceremony will take place at the Day Downtown Festival in Public Square at 11:00 am.

The festival will have a kid's carnival, adult games, a scavenger hunt and bake sale. Entertainment will be local bands, theater and dance studios, the NEPA Celebrity Dance-a-thon and a NEPA's Got Talent Show.

Fifty vendors will be selling merchandise and food. Many vendors that come to events such as this often have colorful Business Cards printed to allow customers to find them again after the event.

Proceeds from the festival will go to the Youth Grief Camp program through Hillside Farm's Care Farming Services.

NEPA's Day Downtown will take place Saturday, July 20th from 5:00 am to 1:00 pm in Wilkes Barre Public Square, 1 N Main Street.
