Spring is in the air and runners from Kingston and surrounding areas are lacing their sneakers to participate in a few running events. Subject to possible cancellation due to COVID-19, they are taking place during April and early May.
On Sunday, May 3, the Wyoming Valley Striders 46th Annual Cherry Blossom 5 Mile Run and 17th Annual Tim Thomas Memorial will take place in Kirby Park. This will be the second of three races in the 2nd Annual Vince Wojnar Triple Crown series.
Registration will be $15 until the day before the event, then goes up to $20 on race day. Commemorative swag featuring the event’s graphic design is included in the ticket price.
Before that, Walk/Run a Mile in Their Shoes - a one-mile run for autism awareness - is scheduled for Sunday, April 5. The event will be at Misericordia University and the course will be a sprint or walk around campus. Participants are encouraged to wear their race shirts with the event’s Logo Design that they receive with their $15 registration. Children who do not want to join in the walk/run can participate in games on the track with their parents.
Scranton will have a couple of runs. The 4th Annual Badge of Honor 5k will be on April 19 in McDade Park, 1 Bald Mountain Road. The other will be a CAC Moonlight 5k/10k and 1.5-mile untimed walk on May 9, starting at Schmielfenig Pavilion, Nay Aug Park.
