Locals race to raise awareness

Residents in and around Kingston can get some exercise while helping others with a race starting in just a few days’ time.

The Northeast Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Stuttering Association (NSA) is hosting the 2nd Annual ‘Don't Tell Me to Slow Down’ 5K. The NSA is a nonprofit group that aims to help people who stutter with support groups and by raising awareness.

The walk and run will take participants through the Misericordia University campus in Dallas. The mostly flat course consists of two loops and one hill on a paved path. The race will also go around the university’s track.

Registration costs $27 and can be completed on the Active.com website. Those who cannot make the event can sign up for the virtual 5K option for $22. These participants are encouraged to run in their hometown at the same time of the event.

Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Businesses who sponsor the event will have their name included on the back of the race T-shirts. Flyer printing is a good way to get the word out about an upcoming event, and sponsors can hand out the Flyers at their local establishment.

Race day registration will take place on April 19 from 8:30 am until 10:00 am at the Anderson Outdoor Athletic Complex. The race kicks off at 10:30 am.

Misericordia University is located on 301 Lake Dallas Street. Participants can park on the campus.
