Locals fundraisers set to run on ahead

Residents in and around Kingston can get some exercise in a few weeks’ time, safe in the knowledge that they will be promoting a good cause at the same time.

‘The Renal Race 4’ will feature a one-mile fun walk and a 5K course, the latter of which begins and ends at Public Square. The flat to moderately hilly course goes across the historic Market Street Bridge and also onto dirt and paved paths.

The event dates back to 2012, when Erin Rebo-Pikul started ‘The Renal Race’ to raise money and awareness for kidney cancer. Her husband, Frank Pikul, has had cancer since 2010. Through the race, the family has been able to help others who have been affected by the disease. No doubt a flyer printing service has been contacted to create promotional handouts for the race.

Registration costs $20, plus a $2.50 online signup fee. The first 100 participants will be given a free T-shirt. Online registration ends on March 12 at 11:59 pm EST. Race day registration is $25, and donations are also welcome.

Race-themed items, such as T-shirts, sweats, and hoodies, are available for an additional fee. Medals will be given to the top three male and female finishers overall and also in each age group.

The race takes place on March 15 at 10:00 am at Public Square, located on 77 East Market Street in Wilkes Barr. Race day registration begins at 8:00 am in the Grand Ballroom at the Genetti Hotel and Conference Center.
