Local spring festivals announced

Two festivals have been announced that will be of great interest to those in the Kingston area.

Although the City of Wilkes-Barre has cancelled its annual Cherry Blossom festival, a three-day smaller version, Cherry Blossom Food Fest, will take place in a local parking lot. This will be a fundraiser for Skateaway and local food trucks that have been put at a disadvantage by the Covid-19 shutdown.

A concession stand will offer fries, chicken and fresh-squeezed lemonade. Other food vendors will be Sammy’s Caribbean Grill, Geraldo’s Pizza, Gyro King, Joe’s Homemade Pierogies, Yogi’s Potato Pancakes and Sue Huey snacks and specialty drinks. Dessert vendors will include Udder Delights Ice Cream and Pete Webby’s Funnel Cakes.

Uncle Floyd’s and Huey’s will bring games and rides.

Cherry Blossom Food Fest will take place off Blackman Street, in Skateaway’s parking lot, from 11:00 am until dusk April 30th and May 1 and 2.

Food and non-food Vendors are also looking forward to the Edwardsville Pierogi Festival coming in mid-June. Fourteen food vendors will be selling everything from pizza, beans and BBQ to donuts, pierogi, kettle corn and nuts. Non-food vendors will include: jewelry, hard cider, dips and gifts. The Edwardsville Hometown Committee will be selling event merchandise sporting this year’s event Logo Design.

Live entertainment will include Non Stop Duo, John Stevens Polka Band, and the Festival Parade will be at 11:00 am on Sunday. A Potato and Cheese Pierogi cook-off will award a $100 first prize.

Edwardsville Pierogi Festival is slated for June 11 and 12.
