Local runners celebrate Christmas five months early

Runners here in Kingston will be entering the Christmas in July 5K or Reindeer Relay before the end of the month.

Proceeds will go to the four-week summer camp Running Ranger, and towards financial support for Northwest Area Cross Country athletes.

The 5K course will consist of four loops. The Reindeer Relay will be teams of four each member running a 1.5 mile leg, while the Rudolph Challenge will have team of four covering 10 miles in 1.8 mile legs.

Runners may begin between 8:00 am and 8:30 am. However, everyone must finish by 10:00 am. All runs will be chipped timed.

Registration for the 5K will be $22, $17 for the Reindeer Relay, and $17 for the Rudolf Challenge. Virtual 5K runs will be available for $25.

Overall awards will go to the first place male and female finishers, with other prizes for a top three finish for both males and females in six age categories. Top teams for the Rudolph Challenge and the Reindeer Relay will receive team trophies, and each team member will get a ribbon featuring a metal reindeer in a green wreath above a Christmas in July 5K Reindeer Relay Logo Design.

Packets may be picked up Friday from 8:00 am until noon at Abide Coffee House, 23 S. Market Street, or on race day.

The date is Saturday, July 31, at Kirby Park, 160 Market Street, Wilkes-Barre.
