Kingston's Kirby Park schedules two charity walks

Kirby Park will be the location of two charity walks – the 4th Annual Race for Recovery and Community Day, and the Hometown Heroes 5K Run & Walk.

The 4th Annual Race for Recovery and Community Day, hosted by local law enforcement, will be on June 4 and will begin at 9:00 am. The live 5K and untimed two-mile races are in aid of addiction awareness. The first 100 participants to pre-register will get t-shirts sporting the event’s graphic design.

Benchmark Mortgage Hometown Heroes 5K Run & Walk, an event to not only honor our local heroes but to support veterans’ charities and local first responders as well, will take place in mid-June. Proceeds will go to Camp Freedom to support its mission of helping first responders, disabled veterans, and their families. The charity partners will be Warrior Strong, Heroes Hearthstone, and Equines for Freedom.

The route will be part of the Luzerne County Levee Trail and goes through Kirby Park. After participants turn around at a designated point, they will return through Nesbitt Park and run the “Hero Mile.” This part of the course will be lined with cheering local military representatives and vehicles, fire, police, first responders, and medics.

Registration is $25 and participants will leave the starting line at 9:00 am on Saturday, June 11. The race should be over by noon.
