Kingston to celebrate the 4th of July

Kingston will be holding the area’s 4th of July celebration this year.

The City of Wilkes-Barre will be hosting the Old Fashion 4th of July Celebration, which will kick-off with the Bernie’s Memorial Run/Walk. More than 20,000 people are expected.

The fun will begin with the Bernie’s Memorial Run/Walk, a three-mile run through southern Wilkes-Barre. The run/walk will begin in Wilkes-Barre on River Street and end in the Public Square. This usually draws around 700 participants. Family and friends may want to support their favorite runners by getting some banner printing done and displaying their items along the route.

Later in the day, at the main venue across the river, food venders will be selling all the standard holiday fare like hot dogs, sno-cones, pork sandwiches, and lemonade. Games and carnival rides will be going full tilt, as will the craft show and live music. Towards, the end of the afternoon the town’s own Philharmonic Society of Northeastern Pennsylvania will play traditional 4th of July marches and other patriotic music. At dusk, the event will close with an array of fireworks.

Everyone is advised to bring blankets, lawn chairs, and maybe even a picnic.

The event will be on Monday, July 4 at Kirby Park, 160 Market St. Kingston. The Run/Walk will begin at 8:30 am on River Street in Wilkes Barre.
