Kingston readies for the 4th

Our local Independence Day Celebration will be in full swing again this year. The Old Fashioned 4th of July Celebration is expected to bring in over 20,000 people.

Everyone is invited to ride carnival rides, play games, enter contests and enjoy live entertainment. Local eateries will have food vendors on site to sell those traditional summer treats. Craft vendors will also be selling their original creations. Guests may want to pick up Flyers or Brochures from their favorite craftsperson to contact them later for custom-made items.

The 34th annual Bernie’s Memorial Run/Walk will begin the festivities. This will be a 3-mile run/walk, and the $20 registration fee must be turned in by June 30th. Last year about 700 runners and walkers participated. Proceeds from this event will benefit The Wilkes-Barr Family YMCA.

The Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic Society will be presenting a patriotic concert, and the grand finale will be the fireworks shot over the Susquehanna River.

The run/walk will begin at 8:30 am at the WB WMCA at 40 W. Northampton St.,Wilkes Barre. A kids’ run for little one 2 to ten years old will begin at 9:15 am. The main celebration will again be in Kirby Park, 280 Market Street, Kingston right across Downtown Wilkes-Barre Market Street Bridge. Admission will be free as will the fireworks. There may be a slight fee for the other events and activities. The NEPA Philharmonic concert will begin at 7:30 pm.
