Pennsylvania American Water recently held a social media-based photography contest, and a Kingston resident took the top spot.
The challenge of the event, which was titled ‘Imagine a Day Without Water’, was to show how having to go without water would affect a person in their everyday life. In the winning photo, Emma Marek depicts trying to do the daily wash without the benefit of water.
The contest ran on both Twitter and Instagram through the month of October, and the grand prize for the winner was an iPad Air 32 GB. Melanie Stevans, who was the first runner-up, received an iPad mini, while second runner-up Cindy Cox was presented with an Amazon gift card that had a value of $100.
Pennsylvania American Water held the contest as part of a campaign that was undertaken by the Value of Water Coalition. Their goal for the event was to help increase awareness about the importance of having access to, and increased support for investment in, systems that provide clean drinking water. Pictures like the ones that were chosen to win can be used in a variety of promotional items such as Calendars, Brochures, and emails.
