Kingston area revels in river fun

The Riverfront Parks Committee 2018 RiverFest and Dragonboat Race event is coming toward the end of June. The three-day event will offer activities, tours and Dragonboat racing.

RiverFest will keep little ones busy with water and river-themed activities and local water conservation and wildlife organizations will have environmental exhibits.

Kayakers and canoe paddlers will get their own trips up the Susquehanna River during the three days. Paddlers can catch the shuttle here in Kingston on Friday and start their seven-mile trip in Harding and head back to Nesbitt Park. On Saturday, Kingston paddlers can catch the shuttle on Market Street at the Rielly Parking lot, get dropped off at Appletree Launch and return the 14 miles to Nesbitt Park. Sunday will be a jaunt from Nesbitt Park to Hunlock Creek.

Dragonboat races for the weekend will begin with the Awaken the Dragon Ceremony. There will also be a passing of the paddle symbolizing peace and friendship. Team practice will take place the next day, and the racing will be throughout the day on Sunday.

Friends, relatives and other team supporters are no doubt getting last minute banner printing done in order to have items ready to urge their teams on.

RiverFest and Dragon Boat Race weekend will be June 22 through June 24 at Nesbitt Park, 280 Market St.
