St. Patrick’s Day will be celebrated a little early this year with the 6th Annual Pittston City St. Patrick’s Day Parade coming in early March.
The big day will begin with the Leprechaun Loop 1 Mile Run/Walk. Kingston participants will be heading to Main Street where they will register at the Pittston YMCA starting at 9:30 am, and line up for the start at 11:00 am at the corner of North Main and William Streets. The race course will be a flat one-mile circle around the statue of Columbus. It will end on South Main Street. Prizes will be awarded to male and female winners in seven age categories and to the three best costumes. All proceeds will go to Ryan’s Run.
An hour later, the three-hour parade will begin. Over 120 Irish-themed units participated in 2018 with more being expected this year. Floats and Irish dancers, plus fife and drum corps will be included. The parade is noted for its plethora of bagpipe units. The parade organizers were particularly pleased that the NYPD Emerald Society Pipe & Drum Band was part of its march last year.
Pittston has had some banner printing done, as a large green and gold banner hangs overhead announcing the start of every St. Patrick’s Day parade.
The parade will step off at 49 South Main Street in Downtown Pittston at noon on Saturday, March 2nd.
