Kingston area celebrates Emerald Isle

Many here in Kingston will be heading to three St. Patrick’s events scheduled for late February and early March.

The kick-off event will be the Little Miss/Little Mister Leprechaun contest taking place at the Pittston Memorial Library, 47 Broad Street, beginning at 12:30 pm on February 24. Kids from ages three to seven can enter. They will be asked a couple of questions, and the winners will be in the St. Patrick’s Parade the following weekend. All participants will receive prizes.

The Leprechaun Loop 5k will take place right before the St. Patrick’s Parade. Participants will register and pickup their packets on race day at the Pittston City Fire department from 9:00 am to 10:15 am. Registration for the 5k will be $30 and the one-mile walk will be $25. Proceeds will go to Team Allied Services.

The top female and male finishers in the 5k will receive trophies and the first female and male finishers in each of seven age categories will receive medals. Prizes will also be awarded to the three best costumes.

The 11th Annual Pittston City St. Patrick’s Parade will step off at 11:30 am on Saturday, March 2 on Turkey Hill with more than 120 units, including more than a dozen bagpipe bands.

The parade will go north on Main Street, loop around the Coal Miner Statue, and go onto Kennedy Boulevard before ending at Pizza Hut.

Units that participate in St. Patrick’s parades often get special banner printing done beforehand.
