This month, fans of Irish folk music can say goodbye to a major band of the genre.
The Irish Rovers will be putting on ‘A Farewell Tour’. Since the 1960s, the folk band has been playing for audiences. While the band’s members have Irish roots, the group itself originated in Canada. Its latest release ‘The Irish Rovers, 50 Years’ features hits, favorites, and new tracks too.
Part of the band’s tour includes a concert at the F.M. Kirby Center for The Performing Arts. From musical performances to comedy acts, the establishment hosts a wide variety of events. The center used to be a movie theater, but a natural disaster and the economy led to the site’s closure. Locals and Albert Boscov, a businessman, stepped in to raise money to save the theater and later refurbish it.
Concert tickets cost $27 or $37 plus additional fees. Individuals can buy tickets at the Kirby Box office or online on Ticketmaster. A 10% discount will be given to those who purchase 10 tickets or more.
Due to the significance of the concert, the tour organizers may have used a flyer printing service to spread the word. The concert will take place on August 24. Doors open at 5:30 pm and the show begins at 7:00 pm. The F.M. Kirby Center is located at 71 Public Square in Wilkes-Barre, only minutes away from Kingston.
