Community events scheduled for Kingston area

Martin Luther King Jr. will be celebrated with a lecture series in Wilkes-Barre and a service day in Kingston in mid-January.

On January 17, beginning at 2:30 pm, the Wilkes-Barre courthouse will have a lecture on Martin Luther King Jr.’s relationships with presidents Linden Baines Johnson, John Fitzgerald Kenndy, and Dwight D. Eisenhower. The talk titled "Martin Luther King Jr. And His Presidents" will be given by Dr Chelsea Chamberlain from Wilkes University.

This will be followed by a presentation "Thurgood Marshall: The Legal Link" given by Kas Williams from Misericordia University.

Music will be provided by Don Sennett and Don Chappell.

Admission will be free.

Wilkes-Barre City Health Department, O'Donnell Law Firm, Friedman, and the Wilkes-Barre NAACP will be holding a Blankets & Broth service project at the Friedman Jewish Community Center. Fringe blankets will be put together at the center, so the event will need as many volunteers as possible.

Volunteers are asked to bring cans of broth and/or soup, which will be donated (along with the blankets) to The Salvation Army Kirby Family House, Ruth's Place, Sarah's Table, and Keystone Mission.

Blankets & Broth will take place on January 20 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am at Friedman KCC/JCA of Northeastern PA at 613, Kingston.

Occasionally, someone supporting charity causes like this can commission flyer printing to distribute the information to their community and workplaces.
