Family-friendly New Year's Eve awaits

The 13th annual Silvester New Year's Eve Celebration is taking place in Harmony this year, presented by the Harmony Museum.

This is a family-friendly celebration with a German theme. The countdown and the ball drop will take place at 6:00 PM, which will be midnight in German time.

There will be a 5K and a one-mile fun run. Fees for the 5K are $20 per person and include a finishing medal, a bib number and a medal certificate. Participants can walk the regular route or choose a 5K route of their choosing.

Dinner will be available for purchase and will include pork and sauerkraut. There will also be the showing of a short German film and a Christmas tree throwing contest. The contest has three divisions; men, women and children. There will be prizes for those who throw the tree the furthest.

Local musical performers will be performing. Following the ball drop, there will be a fireworks spectacular. In addition, local stores will be open for shopping.

Families in Cranberry Township will no doubt be interested in celebrating New Year's Eve together. Local flyer printing firms are often asked to help advertise events such as this.

The celebration will be held at Main and Mercer Streets in Harmony on December 31 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. Admission is free. Call 724-452-7341 for the latest information.
