Butterflies free to fly in Cranberry Township

Colorful butterflies will take the skies over Cranberry Township in a special memorial event next month.

The annual Good Samaritan Hospice Butterfly Release offers families and friends the opportunity to celebrate lives and honor the memories of loved ones.

Organizers of outdoor programs such as this often hire experienced printers to provide banner printing to attract attention to the event.

A $10 donation will allow participants to purchase butterflies to let go into the air. Spectators are welcome to attend for free to watch the flight and also enjoy musical entertainment, children's activities and refreshments. Blankets or portable chairs are recommended as there will be limited seating.

Those interested in the release can register on-line in advance in order to reserve butterflies, but walk-ups will be permitted.

Butterflies are thought to represent positivity, beauty and the various stages of life. It's common for them to be released at weddings, birthdays, funerals and other traditional events.

Funds raised from the event will go to support the Good Samaritan Hospice, which provides end of life care and compassionate support to patients and their families. Services are provided whether the patient is in their own home, in a care facility or at a hospice house location.

The Good Samaritan Hospice Butterfly Release will take place Sunday, August 18, 2-3:30 pm at the Cranberry Township Community Park Rotary Shelter, 111 Ernie Mashuda Drive.
