Media to receive funds for road and bridge repair

The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that the Borough of Media will be receiving a portion of $452.7 million to fix its bridges and roads.

These funds come from liquid fuel payments and are allocated to help certified municipalities maintain their road infrastructure. Media will be receiving $138,959.57 of these payments, which is about seven percent less than the funds the borough received last year. This is an annual distribution and helps municipalities with experiences related to bridges and highways. Such expenses include repaving of roads and snow removal. Boroughs like this often turn to Print shops to help with spreading the word about such improvements using Signs.

There are 120,596 miles of public roads in Pennsylvania of which just over 73,000 miles are owned by cities and towns are eligible for funding from liquid fuels. How much each city or town receives is based on the number of miles that are locally owned and the population size. Media has 5,237 residents and 14.22 miles of roads.

In 2013, Act 89 was passed which added more funding for roadways that are locally owned. Those roadways eligible for such funds are those that can safely accommodate vehicles driving at least 15 miles per hour, meet certain requirements for dimensions, and be formally adopted as a public street by the municipality.
