Hot sauce company gets boosts from college grant

Penn State Brandywine, located in Media, recently named Frankly Deep a recipient of a Brandywine Boost grant. Brandywine Boost offers advice and support to owners of small- and medium-sized business and entrepreneurs in the region of Delaware County.

Frank Schweitzer and Pradeep Kulkarni started Frankly Deep in 2014 when they were students at the college. They discovered their shared love of cooking and began with creating hot sauces in their kitchens at home. Julie Stanton, Associate Professor of Business, encouraged Schweitzer, still a student at the college and a business major, to apply to Brandywine Boost program.

Now that Frankly Deep has received a grant from Brandywine Boost, the company was supported in many ways by faculty and staff at the college. Schweitzer said that five different classes worked on various aspects of the business, from technology support to marketing.

Some students provided software solutions to address some business problems while others did analyses of local competitors, including their websites and press releases. They may also have suggested various Promotional Products to use to get the word out about their new business.

Both Schweitzer and Kulkarni have commented on the positive changes for their company as a result of Brandywine Boost. They added that the Penn State community has been extremely supportive and they will now have the tools to make their business profitable.
