Grant money for traffic signal improvement awarded to Media

Traffic signals in 70 municipalities across Pennsylvania will be improved thanks to a disbursement by Governor Tom Wolfe of $31million. Of that money, Willistown Township will receive close to $130,000.

Nearby Media will receive $129,680. These funds will be used to upgrade 13 intersections in the town with video detection equipment. The specific intersections to be upgraded were not detailed in any statements by Wolfe.

However, Wolfe did say that this round of funding is the fourth in the Green Light-Go program that will help to increase mobility and safety in more towns in the state. This program addresses mechanisms that, if functioning improperly or inadequately, can impede traffic flow and aggravate congestion.

The Green Light-Go program is funded through the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation. The funds given to towns are used to reimburse them for updates that have been installed to improve the operation and efficiency of existing traffic signals. These updates can include retiming of traffic signals, upgrading traffic signals to use the latest technologies, installation of light-emitting diode (LED) technology, and developing plans for special events.

Banner printing companies can be hired to materials that can be displayed throughout the town so that people become aware of such funding and the benefits for their safety and movement at various points in the town.
