Delaware County student artwork published on drug-free calendar

A student from Delaware County had her artwork published in the Pennsylvania Attorney General's Drug-Free 2017 Calendar for the month of February.

Jolene Hsu, who attends Nether Providence Elementary School near Media, Pennsylvania, was one of the thirteen Pennsylvanian students whose artwork was selected for the 20th anniversary publication of the annual drug-free calendar contest. The contest, which is only available to fifth-graders throughout Pennsylvania, asks students to create a drug-free message that will be published in the Calendars as part of a campaign to spread awareness on the danger of drug abuse.

Bruce Beemer, Attorney General of Pennsylvania, said:

"This contest creates an opportunity for the Office of Attorney General to connect with students and get them thinking about the dangers of drugs. We are extremely pleased that so many students took the time to help us share this important message."

Around 858 entries were submitted last month from 208 different schools across Pennsylvania. Students were chosen based on the creativity of their illustration and how well they conveyed a message that urged others to remain drug-free.

The students that were selected were invited over to the Strawberry Square office in Harrisburg for a luncheon and were talked to by the staff about the perils of drug use. They were also given a small a certificate and a prize for their illustrations. The names of the other students that were published can be found on the Patch website.
