Brandywine Boost, a small business initiative of Penn State Brandywine, recently welcomed to its campus the eight clients for the 2018-2019 year. One of these eight clients is Blue Santa Beads in Media.
Director of continuing education at Penn State Brandywine, Margie Bacheler, said that as Penn State is a land-grant institution, a major part of the university’s strategic plan is being involved in the development of the local economy. A big effort is made to work with the small businesses in the area and Bacheler serves not only as the contact point for the program but looks to develop long-term relationships with small businesses in the area and the Brandywine campus.
Bacheler added that it is a competitive process to get into the program each year and this year’s clients are all female-owned businesses, which was purely coincidental.
Among the workshops that are planned for this year are on how to best use social media and upselling. As Brandywine Boost begins to track the needs of each business, there will be more workshops added and one-on-one consultations.
Students at the college will also be exposed to these small businesses through service-learning projects so they can learn in a more hands-on fashion and develop mutually beneficial relationships.
Brochure printing companies can be used by programs such as this one, so businesses can learn more about what they offer.
