Annual New Year's Eve tradition to draw thousands downtown

The annual New Year's Eve Community Celebration and Ball Drop is taking place in Downtown Media this month. It is a presentation of the Media Business Authority.

This free, outdoor event attracts thousands of visitors of all ages and from surrounding areas each year. Visitors will be treated to entertainment by Philly Gumbo, a band that plays the New Orleans sound. The event takes place outside of the Spasso Italian Grill at State and Jackson. The ball will drop just before midnight with a countdown.

For families who want to spend the day downtown, they can also attend a performance of ‘Billy Elliot: The Musical’ at 2:00 pm. This production has been playing at the Media Theatre since last month and will be closing on January 3. Written by Elton John and Lee Hall, it is based on a successful movie about a boy from a working class background who likes to dance. Tickets are $25 for children, $35 for seniors, and $42 for adults.

Wherever they come from, people are sure to enjoy this New Year's Eve in Media, no matter what they decide to do. Local Print companies may be asked to provide advertising to let people know what is happening.

The New Year's Eve Community Celebration and Ball Drop will take place on December 31, beginning at 11:00 PM. Call 610-566-5309 for more information.
