Villanova University receives large donation

After graduation, many alumni often give back to their alma maters in the form of donations or mentorships, but one Villanova University alumnus has gone above and beyond when it comes to giving back.

The school, which is just seven miles from Bala Cynwyd, recently announced Richard K. Faris, who earned a CE in 1969 and a MSCE in 1970 from Villanova, has made a $5m estate and cash commitment to the College of Engineering.

Institutions that receive significant donations from individuals can use Stationery printers to create official recognition and thank you letters.

Faris' gift is meant to support the expansion of the Center for Engineering Education and Research. The center is meant to provide a learning and research environment that is inspiring and on the cutting edge. As a way of saying thank you for the gift, the College of Engineering has named a laboratory after Faris.

Faris has been on the Advisory Board of the Engineering Dean at Villanova since 2015. He is also an inaugural member of the Engineering Entrepreneurship Advisory Board. As part of his role on the board, he teaches entrepreneurship classes. In addition to his work at Villanova, he is on the board of directors for the Philadelphia Zoo and co-founded Primavera Systems, Inc., a project management software firm that was purchased by Oracle in 2008.

Faris' gift was part of a university-wide fundraising campaign, ‘For the Greater Great: The Villanova Campaign to Ignite Change’. All told, the campaign raised $760m, nearly $65m of which went to the College of Engineering.
