EarthFest adding scary science exhibit

Later this month, the Ambler campus of Temple University is hosting The Science of Scary, as part of the University's Earthfest.

It will highlight some of the animals society sees as scary and their essential role in the ecosystem. In addition, many of the animals are apathetic to humans.

Temple University Ambler Grants and Research Manager and Co-Coordinator of EarthFest Susan Sacks said the first Science of Scary was last year, and was one of the most advantageous events they had ever presented. She added that it connects to the goals of EarthFest, which are establishing connections to people and the surrounding environment and advocating for environmental education and conservation.

Just the sort of event often promoted through brochure and poster printing, EarthFest has helped Temple Ambler establish connections with local organizations that have similar goals in educating the community on making a difference and introducing them to science and animals. The Science of Scary is family-friendly and includes spiders, snakes, sharks, and owls. Attendees also learn about storm development.

Organizations working with Temple Ambler for The Science of Scary include Barn Nature Center, the Academy of Natural Sciences, Franklin Institute, Elmwood Park Zoo, and the Philadelphia Butterfly Pavilion and Insectarium.

The event will take place in Bright Hall at the heart of the campus. Interested parties can register online. It will be held on October 20, from 2:00 pm until 4:00 pm.
