What's Happening in Portland, OR…

Book festival to showcase Northwestern writers

‘Wordstock’, a presentation of Literary Arts, is taking place next month in Portland.

The event is known as Portland’s Book Festival, and is set to feature a book fair with publishers, authors, and educators providing pop-up readings and concerts. Some of the authors who will be participating in this year’s festival are Megan Abbot, Joe Biel, Brendan Jones, and Anna Griffin. There will be a beverage garden and food trucks.

Several writing workshops, with topics such as writing a personal essay and editing for writers, can be participated in for $75 each. There are also a couple of free teen workshops like the Jam Comics Workshop for High School Students.

The night before the festival is the Bookmark Bash: A Benefit for Wordstock. Tickets are $100 each and the evening is set to feature a live auction, entertainment, and food and drink. Guests can also play a trivia game show with some of the authors. Other related events for the festival include a Lit Crawl.

Portland print companies are often asked to help advertise events like this by providing promotional products like banners or posters.

Wordstock will be held at the Portland Art Museum on November 5. Tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door, which include a $5 coupon to spend at the book fair. The Bookmark Bash will take place on November 3 beginning at 7:00 pm. Contact Literary Arts at 503-227-2583 to learn more.
