Annual festival promotes healthier eating
The Portland Veg Fest is taking place for two days next month in Portland.
The festival, a presentation of Northwest Veg, will feature speakers such as keynotes Dr. Neal Barnard and Michele Simon from the Plant-Based Foods Association. There will be exhibits from food producers, vendors representing local companies, and a farmers’ market where the only food sold will be vegan. Guests will also be able to sample food from several local restaurants. Several nonprofit organizations that promote veganism and vegetarianism will be on hand to provide information to the public about their programs and services.
There are also set to be fitness demonstrations and classes, film screenings, a fashion and beauty stage, cooking demonstrations, and a bookstore selling cookbooks and publications on topics related to the vegetarian lifestyle.
There will also be special activities for teens and families, and information about senior living.
Organizers of the festival are still looking for volunteers to help run things. Activities that volunteers will be expected to perform include handing out postcards and posters at various public buildings in Portland.
The Portland Veg Fest will be held at the Oregon Convention from October 22 to 23. Admission is $9 for adults or $16 for both days, $6 for seniors, and free for children aged 12 and younger. Visit the event website for up-to-date information.
