Portland5 among first seeking GBAC STAR accreditation

Portland’5 Centers for the Arts is a leader in the chase for STAR accreditation from the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), which is viewed as the gold standard for facility preparation.

A division of global cleaning sector association ISSA, GBAC will instruct Portland’5 in the implementation of the most rigorous cleaning protocols for the prevention of infectious diseases at the following locations: Keller Auditorium, Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall, the Newmark and Winningstad theatres located in Antoinette Hatfield Hall, and the Brunish.

Patricia Olinger, the GBAC executive director, said:

“GBAC STAR accreditation empowers facility owners and managers to assure workers, customers and key stakeholders that they have proven systems in place to maintain clean and healthy environments.”

Portland’5 Center hopes to achieve GBAC STAR accreditation by September by demonstrating compliance with the 20 core elements of the program. These include risk assessment strategies, standard operating procedures, emergency preparedness, and personal protective equipment.

The GBAC STAR mission is to assist organization in establishing procedures and protocols, as well as to evaluate a facility’s readiness to handle biorisk situations. It also supplies expert-led training for those that request it. The work performed by Portland’5 will generate the template used by performing arts centers to complete their own accreditation process.
