An annual celebration of Native American culture, the NAYA’s Neerchokikoo Powwow is once again scheduled to take place at the Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA) here in Portland.
Beginning in 2010 the Powwow has, except during the height of the COVID pandemic, welcomed all to come together to celebrate the culture, history and cultural arts of Native Americans. Attendees can enjoy traditional dance and drumming throughout the day along with exhibits created by various age groups as well as multi-generational groups.
Banner printing services help in promoting events as well as marking their location, plus, they add a festive touch.
The Portland area is home to a wide array of Native Americans with over 380 tribes being represented here. This makes for a diverse assortment of NAYA’s microenterprise service supported native artisans and vendors offering their jewelry, prints and other items for sale. Additionally, there will Indian tacos and tasty fry bread on hand for purchase.
NAYA was founded in 1974 by elder and parent volunteers and in 1994 attained its 501(c)(3) status. Over the past 50 years NAYA has expanded its services and programs to better meet the needs of the native community.
The 12th annual Neerchokikoo Powwow, which is free to attend, will take place on September 7, 2024, at the Native American Youth and Family Center which is located in Portland at 5135 NE Columbia Boulevard.
