The month-long Portland Rose Festival has been an annual tradition for over 100 years, and although curtailed by the COVID-19 pandemic for the last two years, the 2022 festival looks to be a no-holds barred, all-hands-on-deck event.
The Rose Festival began as a means of promoting the city as the “summer capital of the world.” Predating the festival, the Portland Rose Society, founded by Mrs. Henry Pittock and friends in 1888, had already successfully promoted the cultivation of roses, putting the city well on its way to earning its future nickname of “Rose Capital of the World.”
Banner printing services are helpful for reminding the public of large upcoming events.
During its run the Rose Festival offers three parades: The Grand Floral Parade, the biggest, takes place June 11; the CareOregon Starlight Parade is held at night on June 4; and the Fred Meyer Junior Parade is June 8. Those who go to the three-weekend urban fair may want to keep their eyes peeled for the Rose Queen and her court, the Royal Rosarians, and the Rose Festival’s Mascot - The Clown Prince.
The Royal Rosarians, the city’s official greeters and ambassadors, can be seen in the Grand Floral Parade. They produce several events during the festival and throughout the year, including the Royal Festival Blessing & Memorial Service and the Royal Rosarian Knighting Ceremony.
The Portland Rose Festival runs May 27 through June 26.
