Drivers reminded to renew DMV documents
The grace period the state of Oregon has had in place due to the pandemic is coming to an end, and December 31 will be the last day to renew expired driver’s licenses, vehicle registration, and identification cards without penalty.
According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, Portland residents and other state residents with expired DMV documents, numbering at approximately 300,000, will begin receiving reminders in the mail in this month to renew before 2022. A second reminder will not be sent out, according to ODOT, and it is suggested that drivers check their card to ensure its validity.
Some large employers will no doubt turn to flyer printing to remind their workers of some issue that might prevent them from making it to work or arriving on time.
Recently the DMV has created a means for people to schedule appointments from their smartphone or computer. DMV Administrator Amy Joyce elaborated:
Several DMV services are available online at its site, including paying a fee for reinstatement, reporting a car as being sold, accessing a DMV profile, and replacing a damaged or lost license or ID card.

"To help Oregonians get DMV services during the pandemic, we’ve added many new online options. We have caught up with the COVID-19 backlog enough that about half our visits to field offices are by appointment, and the other half are standby.”
