Deno’s Pizzeria on Lakeview Boulevard in Lake Oswego will be holding its annual Christmas Angel Fundraiser this month.
Students who attend the Community Transitional School will be able to select an angel at the restaurant and receive a gift from the wish list, getting their hands on one of many possible gifts from the school’s 72 students. The list provides relevant information about the shoe and clothing sizes of the children, and people are asked to drop off these items unwrapped. Local Print shops can get involved in distributing printed lists of such items throughout the community.
The program was begun by Kay Valentine when she bought the restaurant 26 years ago. Previously, she had helped with a similar program at an insurance company where she worked. Valentine supports the transition school, which serves those families who are in transition, in a poverty-related crisis, or are homeless.
She donates to the school in lieu of volunteering due to her running of the restaurant. She added that the school receives little funding from the government, so it relies on donations to keep it running. She expressed her gratitude to the community of Lake Oswego for their continued support of the school.
Gifts need to be at the restaurant by Wednesday, December 7 and will be delivered to the children on Thursday, December 8.
