Lake Oswego to celebrate Chinese New Year

A Lunar New Year Festival will be held by Lake Oswego at the Adult Community Center this weekend.

The festival celebrates the Year of the Snake and promises to have fun activities for the entire family. The festival starts at 1:00 pm in the Oak Room on the main level. The emcee will be Kimvi To and there will be musical performances by kindergarten and first grade students from the Palisades World Language School. Oregon Korean Performing Arts will be doing a Korean Fan Dance and Nanta Drumming, while White Lotus Dragon and Lion Dance will be performing a lion dance.

The next hour will have activities for children and adults on the lower and main levels. Children will be making red Envelopes and learning how to fold a dumpling. Adults will enjoy a floral arrangement demonstration by Diane Dixon.

Such special events often turn to poster printing for promotional purposes, with the Posters then placed throughout a city.

Among the collaborators of the festival are the Lake Oswego School District, Formosa Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors, LO for Love, and the Asian Art and Culture Foundation. It is sponsored by the Friends of the Lake Oswego Public Library and the City of Lake Oswego.

The festival will be from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm tomorrow, February 8.
