Outdoor cacti growing class to be held in Bend
While many may think of cacti as desert plants, they can be successfully cultivated in Bend, and an upcoming workshop will explore their care and culture.
The Smith Rock Cactus Garden, which is owned and maintained by a local couple, is a local venue that shows how easy it can be to grow a cactus in the state. Through trial and error, its owners have found which species perform best, and they will be sharing their knowledge with the group.
The session, which will take place outdoors, will introduce the participants to hardy cacti and how, with a little care, they can flourish in the Bend area. They will find out how cactus paddles can be used to grow more plants, and the importance of choosing a suitable growing location and soil will be discussed.
The workshop will run for one hour, and to help the participants add some cacti to their own garden, they will be able to purchase a wide assortment of varieties on site. Plant care guides and tip sheets can be prepared to distribute to the attendees in an activity by a brochure printing company.
This introduction to the joys of growing a cactus garden will be offered on Saturday, May 6, starting at 11:00 am. The location for the session will be 64640 Old Bend Redmond Highway.
