A teacher from Bend’s Juniper Elementary was recently chosen by educators from all across the state to receive a special honor.
Heather Anderson, who teaches grade four, was presented with the Oregon Teacher of the Year award during a surprise assembly at her school. She has worked as both a coach and teacher leader, and was an integral part in her educational institution being granted the title of Model School. This is given to the top 5% of schools in the state that are considered to be high poverty, based on their student achievement levels.
Anderson, who is from Bend and grew up in the community, remarked that she was very pleased to have been chosen to receive the recognition, and that she is proud to be able to represent her home town at such a high level. To help mark occasions like this, a Print company can produce a special award, such as a plaque or other item that can be proudly displayed by the recipient.
Anderson began he career in education as a student teacher in Mexico, and ever since then, she has chosen to work in schools that have a high number of disadvantaged students. She noted that she feels every pupil can excel if the fact that they need some extra help is recognized early, and they are given an adequate level of support.
