Bend set to show some love to local wilderness area

Residents of Bend who care about their environment will be joining others from all across the state for a stewardship project that will show the Oregon Badlands Wilderness some TLC.

The area, which is noted for the wide variety of unique rock formations, was designated a wilderness back in 2009. As well as being home to a variety of desert plants, Native American pictographs can also be found on the 30,000-acre site.

Those who register for the activity will be working on several projects, including signage improvement, trail maintenance, and fence removal. It will give those who want to get involved with environmental stewardship a chance to do so, and since it will be held for just one day, it may be easier for them to fit into their agenda than a multi-day event.

The participants in the activity will meet at the Bend offices of the Oregon Natural Desert Association, and they will return by 4:00 pm. Water will be supplied, but the attendees may want to bring their own as well, and suitable clothing, as well as sturdy boots, is recommended. The registrants will need to sign both a medical form and registration application, and documents like these can be sourced from area stationery printers.

This opportunity for nature lovers to show some love to the desert near Bend will be held on December 8. They will meet up at 50 SW Bond Street and carpool to the worksite.
