Law enforcement is a career that can come with a heavy emotional toll, both on individual officers and their whole family. Bend’s policing professionals are among those invited to take a seat in a daylong symposium that will help to make sure that those who serve others do not forget about their mental and emotional health.
Behavioral scientist Dr. Gilmartin has over 20 years of police-related experience, and he currently works as a consultant to many police departments. He noted that one of his goals is to “ aid officers and their families in maintaining and/or improving their quality of life both personally and professionally”, and attending this event can provide them with a piece of this puzzle.
The attendees in the conference will find out the different sources of stress in their career and how this can impact on how their perform their job, interact with their friends and family, and their even their overall level of personal happiness. After this, they will be taught a variety of coping skills and other ways to mitigate the impact these stressors can have on their life.
Along with the presentation from Dr. Gilmartin, several wellness programs offered to the Bend police department and also the Spouses of Bend PD will be discussed. Conference folders that include a notepad and promotional Pens can be prepared for a learning event like this by a professional Print shop.
Sunriver’s SHARC Event Center has provided space for this symposium, and it will be held on May 24. Registration is free.
