Bend online presentation to discuss deep lake sediments

Anyone who has an interest in Bend’s natural areas may want to save the date for an online presentation that will explore the stories told by the sediment at the bottom of alpine lakes.

Katrina Moser, Ph.D., who is an associate professor at University of Western Ontario’s Department of Geography and Environment, will be sharing her knowledge with the registrants in a seminar that will explore deep lake sediments. There is no fee to sign up to be in the audience, but the organizers have asked anyone who would like to take part to register ahead of time.

Dr. Moser will discuss how examining the sediment found at the bottom of deep mountain lakes can reveal details about its past, as its contents are often thousands of years old. It was explained that it can contain everything from traces of ancient rainfall to fossils, and can be an indication of how the environment has changed over time.

Hosting this type of function gives a museum a way to continue to serve its patrons and the wider community even when it cannot host in-person visits. A poster printing company will have a variety of ways to help make the public aware of when and where it will be held.

Bend’s High Desert Museum will be holding this virtual presentation on April 5. Anyone who would like to register is asked to do so by visiting the institution’s website.
