Bend initiative to help identify early childhood issues

Bend parents and caregivers have been urged to take advantage of a screening program available to them later this year.

Healthy Beginnings will be hosting a screening clinic at the Deschutes County WIC, and it will be available in both English and Spanish. Intended for kids who are from birth up to age 5, no health insurance is needed to participate in the event.

Those who would like to participate are asked to book an appointment, as only a limited number of walk-in spaces are available. There will be screenings for vision, hearing, dental, speech, nutrition and overall health, and development will also be checked. If issues are found, the parents or caregivers will be given information about supports in the local community, and the service will be performed by healthcare professionals.

An event like this can benefit a community, and the planners have remarked that they are highly recommended by both doctors and educators. Brochure printing and other services for the occasion can be sourced from area print shops, which can supply all the printed materials needed for such functions.

This opportunity for parents to help get their child off to a healthy start will be offered on November 12. It will be held at 2577 NE Courtney Drive, and it will begin at 12:00 noon.
