Winter hike planned in Westerville

Winter can offer some activities outdoors, in beautiful, snow-covered surroundings, such as the local parks.

The MetroParks system is a state agency that administers 19 parks on everyone's behalf, including the Winter Hike Series. In Westerville, the Winter Hike is held in Sharon Woods, where attendees have the choice of hiking either two or four miles, exploring the beauty of the park in winter. Furry friends are welcome to join their humans at the event, but they must be on a leash. After the hike, hot drink and a bowl of chicken and wild rice soup will be available.

Sharon Woods has both fields and forests with beech, hickory, and oak trees growing there. It also includes Schrock Lake, which covers 11 acres of the 761 acres that make up the entire park.

In order to encourage participants to be as green as possible, they're asked to bring a reusable bowl or mug, or purchase a bowl that will be available from Friends of MetroParks. They can also car pool instead of driving alone. In addition, anyone who donates $5, or personal hygiene products to the Mid-Ohio Foodbank, will be given a collector's mug.

The hike is set for January 11 from 10.00 am until 11.00 am. The fee is $9 per person, although children under 12 are free, as long as they have a paying adult with them. Banner printing can be used to help mark courses for events like this.
