Westerville food drive to teach about food scarcity

Next month, Westerville Area Resource Ministry will hold the In-Person Food Drive & Sorting to teach children about food scarcity in their communities and what they can do to help.

The food drive event is designed for children ages 2 to 12, although siblings of attendees not in this age range are welcomed. Seeds of Caring and Westerville Area Ministry will teach the event participants about the reality of food insecurity in the community in an approachable, age-appropriate way.

The event will feature a family scavenger hunt that will take place throughout the ministry warehouse and food pantry. Organizers will also read an age-appropriate book about hunger during a special story time. Afterwards, the children will be assigned hands-on tasks to do to help with the food drive and activities at the food pantry.

Organizers encourage families to do their own donation drive outside of the event and will provide Flyers in the confirmation email to help in this endeavor. Events like this that involve volunteers distributing Flyers can often involve local Print shops specializing in flyer printing services.

The food drive is scheduled for Saturday, September 9, from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm. The venue is Westerville Area Resource Ministry, which is located at 150 Heatherdown Drive. There is no cost to participate, but families are encouraged to bring food donations.
