Westerville education board welcomes new face

Gerrie Cotter, the president of the Westerville Board of Education, recently announced that the board has chosen Vaughn Bell to finish the unexpired term of Richard Bird, who resigned from the board in October to pursue a new opportunity in Colorado.

Bell has a bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University with a major in economics, and a master's of divinity from the United Theological Seminary. He is currently senior pastor at Westerville's Triumphant Church of God.

Bell has served on the district's Elementary Attendance Boundary Realignment Committee, as well as the Financial Review Committee, and the Community Engagement Committee. He has also held the post of president of the African American Parent Association, and has represented the community on the District Strategic Plan Committee.

Bell said that serving in these various organizations meant he was responsible for making recommendations on a number of issues to the board of education. Taking part in these volunteer positions has helped him understand how school systems work, and he has gained experience in talking with members of the public with regard to the policies and finances of public schools.

Cotter said she is looking forward to having Bell on the board, as there are important initiatives coming up, and his work with the district in the past will allow him to step into his new position quickly.

When a new appointee fills a position such as this, the district could provide him with appropriate Letterheads and Business Cards.
