Bad weather forced cancellation of Westerville’s Cops & Kids Day, but the event has now been rescheduled, and organizers hope to attract people from throughout the area for a day of fun and information.
The event is designed to help law enforcement personnel and community members build relationships with one another. To that end, agencies from throughout Ohio take part in the yearly event, where K-9 units, tactical vehicles, motorcycles, helicopters, and cruisers are displayed.
Local safety organizations and hospitals will also be taking part, providing various materials explaining child safety, interactive exercises, and promotional items. This year, for the first time, people will be able to get news about the event by texting “CopsKids” to 888777. In addition, attendees should be aware that County Line Road will be closed between Cleveland Avenue and Vesper Way from about 10:00 am until 5:00 pm on the day of the event.
Youngsters can also enjoy inflatable gyms, arts and crafts projects, and the crowd-pleasing ‘Dunk-a-Cop’ tank. The event is free, as are refreshments. In addition, the first 2,000 children to attend will be given a gift. Organizers of events like this can work with a banner printing company to create colorful decorations for the venue.
Cops & Kids Day is scheduled to take place from noon until 4:00 pm this Sunday, September 23 at the Westerville Sports Complex, which is on North Cleveland Avenue.
