The intersection at Plumb Road and State Route 3, in Genoa Township near Westerville, is due to be upgraded.
The county commissioners of Delaware County approved funding for the project in the amount of $50,000. The money will help fund the work, which will be done by the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT).
Chris Bauserman, the county's engineer, said the department plans to add a traffic signal and turn lanes, which will improve the intersection. Barb Lewis, a county commissioner, said the project is very important since several accidents have taken place at the 3C and Plumb. Lewis said the problem of the dangerous intersection has been of concern to residents in the area.
Leo Wilhelm, a Genoa Township trustee, noted that traffic on Route 3 has increased, and reflective stop Signs were installed in 2011 to alleviate problems. However, although the Signs helped, a total redesign of the intersection, as well as the installation of actual traffic lights, will be a much greater improvement.
Improvements to this particular intersection are part of a bigger ODOT effort. The department plans to resurface Ohio Route 3 from Westerville to Sunbury, upgrade extant signals, and replace two culverts. Construction could begin as early as September, and should finish next year.
Westerville officials might work with a flyer printing company to create a mailer for residents suggesting alternate routes to use during the work.Get a Free Quote for Signs
