A Dickens Christmas coming to Westerville

Westerville will be the site of an unusual celebration, when literary characters come to life on its streets.

A walking tour that is also a performance is coming to Westerville, as the city welcomes the event known as “Uptown Scrooge,” which takes place in Uptown Westerville, where historic buildings provide the backdrop. In this version of Dickens' “Christmas Carol,” 15 participants take the role of Scrooge, while professional actors play the ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Future. The actors use puppetry, music, theatrical clowning, improvisation, and storytelling, which all take place in local businesses and on the streets, to make the story relevant to Westerville.

The performance is also a fundraiser for Good Medicine Productions, which uses the profits to support the Nursing Home and Pediatric programs run by the group. These programs use the skills of performers who go to patients' bedsides to perform, relieving sadness and isolation through the magic of the theater.

Among the businesses participating in the production are the Westerville Florist, Graeters, Captivating Canines, Tostadalicious, and more. Poster printing can be used to provide colorful advertisements for events like this.

Tours are 90 minutes long, limited to 15 participants, and cost $22 for adults and $10 for children. The shows begin November 30 and continue Saturday and Sundays through December 21. There are several tours each day, at 12:30 pm, 1:00 pm, 1:30 pm, 2:15 pm, 2:45 pm and 3:15 pm. Tickets and details are on the Good Medicine website.
