At one time, peregrine falcon numbers in the Eastern USA were so low there was a fear they could become extinct. In recent years, they have made a major comeback, and a Middleburg Heights presentation will explore the lives of these raptors.
Chris and Chad Saladin will be presenting a free lecture about these birds of prey and the success story of the efforts to save the species. Both Chad and Chris have been interested in observing and studying peregrine falcons for many years, and are pleased to share their interest and discoveries with the public.
Those who attend the event will learn how these raptors have adapted to live in urban environments and have even found safety in cities. They will discover how they have made bridges and skyscrapers into alternative hunting grounds, perching and nesting sites, and have adapted to a diet to suit the landscape and the prey animals they share it with.
While this presentation is free to attend, the organizers noted that donations will be most appreciated. Booklets that provide more information about the birds can be prepared for distribution during this sort of evening by area Print shops.
The Rocky River Nature Center Rocky River Reservation will be offering this special event on May 7. It is being held as part of the Western Cuyahoga Audubon Speaker Series 2018-2019.
