The community of Middleburg Heights now has new rules when it comes to the disposal of rechargeable batteries and fluorescent lightbulbs.
Both of these items are not acceptable for curbside pick up, and the city has issued a bulletin to let the public know what steps they can take to dispose of them safely.
Locals have been advised that both the local Lowe’s Home Improvement and Home Depot will now be accepting compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs) that are no longer needed, and they will deal with them in a way that is friendly to the environment.
There is now also an option that has been put into place for rechargeable batteries. Best Buy, Lowes, and Home Depot have partnered with Call2Recycle, and have placed drop Boxes in their stores, and there are many other disposal points as well throughout the community.
Both the lighting and batteries will be recycled into a host of other products, including silverware, golf clubs, and stainless steel.
