An event that will celebrate National Seed Swap Day is set to attract green thumbs from Middleburg Heights and many other areas, offering a fun way to spend a January afternoon.
Cleveland Seed Bank is working to preserve biodiversity, and the home gardener can play a role. A seed exchange can help to preserve heritage varieties while, at the same time, gives amateur horticulturalists a chance to share the cultivars they have developed with other gardeners.
Seed, tubers, rhizomes, corms, and other plant parts that are suitable for propagation will all be on offer during the swap, in what will be an opportunity for like-minded individuals to meet, connect, and share their best practices. All are welcome whether they have seeds to swap or not, and a collection of nonperishables for the local food bank is also on the agenda.
Along with the seeds, cuttings, and other plant starters, the attendees are welcome to bring yogurt cultures, kombucha scoby, and kefir grains to swap.
