Rain gardening and rain barrels are two ways the homeowner can lend Mother Nature a helping hand, and a Mansfield area workshop will provide tips for their use.
The Richland Soil and Water Conservation District is excited about the benefits of rain barrels and installing gardens that take some of the strain off the city’s system of storm drains. It will be hosting a presentation at the Ontario branch of the Mansfield Richland County Public Library, and registration is free of charge.
During the activity, a representative of the District will introduce the use of rain barrels, including how and where they should be installed. Everyone will learn where they can purchase a kit to make one themselves, or buy one that has been pre-fabricated, and the discussion will also cover how to construct a rain garden, as well as which plants to choose to use. The runtime for the activity is two hours.
Rain gardens and barrels are two simple steps a homeowner can make towards being more environmentally friendly. Mailers that let the public know where and when an information session that might be of interest to them is being held may be obtained by contacting a local flyer printing company.
This presentation planned with the home gardener in mind will be offered on May 12, starting at 6:00 pm. The library is located at 2221 Village Mall Drive in Ontario.
