Hot Mess, the show that sold out in 2016, is back again this year for three nights of entertainment at The Renaissance Theatre in Mansfield.
The musical is a spoof on reality television shows and is meant for mature audience. The six actors play various roles and no doubt created digital Business Cards and résumés for the work they do. Each actor can portray as many as 10 to 15 characters during the play, and each will likely bring a familiarity to the stage as they are centered on some well-known reality television stars.
The musical was written and directed by Michael Thomas. Along with having created shows that have been presented at The Renaissance, he is also credited with writing for The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which is a Netflix show and 30 Rock which ran on NBC.
The premise of the musical is around a character named Divinia Chontrell who after being dumped by her husband goes on a journey of revenge. Her quest for attention is very similar to that of many reality television stars as she goes on her “all about me” journey.
Unusually, the audience will not be sitting in the theater seats, but will be on stage with the actors. The musical will be at The Renaissance Theatre from today (April 20th) through Saturday. Performances will be at 8:00 pm each day. On April 22, there will be a second performance at 11:00 pm. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased through The Renaissance Theatre box office on line or over the phone.
